Halloween Safety Tips
- Plan ahead: Map out a route and stick to familiar paths.
- Be visible: Wear light-colored clothing, use reflective tape, and add face makeup instead of a mask.
- Stay in a group: Older children should stay together and communicate with an adult.
- Walk on the sidewalk: If there isn't a sidewalk, walk with traffic at the edge of the road.
- Cross with caution: Look both ways and only cross at the corner.
- Avoid shortcuts: Don't cut through yards or alleys, or cross between parked cars.
- Only visit well-lit homes: Don't enter any homes or cars for treats.
- Inspect treats: Before eating, adults should check treats for choking hazards, open packages, and loose candy. Throw away any candy that is not commercially packaged or that has pinholes in it.
- Avoid homemade treats: Avoid homemade treats received from strangers.
- Finish early: Try to finish trick-or-treating before dusk, especially with younger children.
